Join Kiawah for the Fourth of July

Girls eat watermelon on the Fourth of July at Kiawah

For a classic kick-off to the summer season, join Kiawah for the Fourth of July. Many families make celebrating our nation’s birthday on the island an annual tradition. Here are our suggestions for four memorable ways to celebrate the Fourth.

Red, White & Blue Festival

Terrace Lawn at The Sanctuary
Tuesday, July 4th | 5pm – 9pm
This birthday party for our nation is truly a celebration fit for The Sanctuary, with live music and family activities, including an obstacle course, soccer darts, and games for the kids. The festivities include a buffet with all the cookout classics you can eat — burgers, hot dogs, and seafood options — plus your favorite sides. End the evening with a 10pm fireworks display. This event, as well as gate access during this time, will be limited to Kiawah Island guests and residents.

Independence Day Festival

Night Heron Park
Tuesday, July 4th | 6pm – 9:30pm

To experience an all-American extravaganza, visit Night Heron Park beginning at 6:00 PM, with musket-shooting (no live rounds!) beginning at 7 PM, an annual water melon-eating contest and a brilliant fireworks display. During the festival, be certain to visit with the 2nd Regiment, South Carolina Continental Line, located in The Nest Parking Lot. On display will be revolutionary war muskets and equipment and clothing worn by regular soldiers, militia and riflemen. During this immersive experience, the Regiment is proud to share stories of the American Revolution and the lives of the soldiers and their families that marched with them.

Festivities will include live music, carnival games, inflatables, a photo booth, crafts and more. There is no admission fee for the event and no reservations are necessary, but it is limited to Kiawah Island guests and residents.

Fireworks

Annual Patriotic Bike Parade

Starts at East Beach Village
Tuesday, July 4th | 5pm

Patriots of all ages are encouraged to join on bikes, skates, roller blades or by foot. Bike decorating begins at 5 PM followed promptly by the parade at 5:45 PM. The Kiawah Island Golf Resort recreation department will lead the parade, followed by Uncle Sam, Lady Liberty and Captain America. The route leads participants down Sea Forest Drive from The East Beach Village and finishes at Night Heron Park, where the Independence Day Festival will kick-off in full swing once the parade concludes. Participation in the parade is complimentary and no reservations are required.

Mingo Point Oysters

Mingo Point Oyster Roast

Monday, July 3rd | 5pm – 7:00pm and 7:30 – 9:30pm
All resort restaurants will serve summertime menus replete with the bounty from our local farms and fisheries, but you won’t want to miss Kiawah Island Golf Resort’s longest established tradition —Mingo Point Oyster Roast & BBQ, which invites guests to experience an authentic, time-honored Lowcountry custom right on the breathtaking bank of the Kiawah River.
