Enjoy the newly opened Treehouse Nature Center —a unique, family-friendly destination where curiosity meets the natural world. Step inside to explore interactive exhibits, meet live animal ambassadors, and connect with the island’s incredible wildlife. It’s the perfect stop for guests of all ages looking to add a little adventure and education to their time on Kiawah Island.
Admission is complimentary, no reservations required. No outside animals permitted, except service animals.

Unleash your creativity at the Art Studio inside the Treehouse Activity Center! Our Open Studio offers a wide variety of hands-on projects perfect for artists of all ages. Choose from pottery painting, wood crafts, canvas painting, shell art, and rotating pop-up crafts that change throughout the season. With options ranging from simple keepsakes to detailed designs, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
Kiln-fired projects, such as pottery, are typically ready for pickup the next day by 2pm; however, during busier times, firing may take up to two days. Shipping is also available upon request. Reservations are not required—simply drop in and create at your own pace.

Tandem Kayaking

Accompany a Naturalist on a guided paddle in dual occupancy tandem kayaks.

Family Craft: DoorHangers & Bookmarks

Make your mark with art! In this fun, family craft, participants will design and decorate their own custom door hangers or bookmarks. Using paint, markers, stickers, and plenty of imagination, you’ll create colorful pieces that show off your personality and style. This hands-on workshop encourages creativity and self-expression—perfect for artists of all ages! Everyone will take home a unique, usable creation to hang on a door or slip inside a favorite book.

Glass Fusing 101

Start brainstorming! Join us for Glass Fusing 101, where you’ll learn how to layer and design colorful glass pieces to make your own unique masterpiece. Choose from a wide variety of color options to piece together your own personal puzzle! Each participant will receive a 4×4 tile to work on, with upgrade options available for larger pieces. Precut glass pieces are available for children, making this a fun and accessible craft for the whole family.

Join a naturalist on a nature walk around Kiawah’s Sanctuary and explore some of our amazing habitats! You will see and learn a bit about everything nature-related to this part of Kiawah during this tour. From alligators to native plants and butterflies, to local bird species and freshwater turtles!

Stories in the Park

Join a Naturalist for a storybook reading as part of our Tails & Tales reading series. Children will gather to enjoy a fun and educational, animal-themed story read by one of our friendly staff Naturalists. After the story, they will get to meet a real Animal Ambassador featured in the book, bringing the tale to life in an unforgettable way.

Cookies and Canvas

Join us for a fun and relaxed painting class where everyone can get creative—no matter your age or experience level! Our instructor will choose a project that’s perfect for the group, guiding you step-by-step through the painting process so that everyone can follow along and create something beautiful. Since painting builds up an appetite, we will be providing different kinds of cookies and lemonade! Whether you’re a first-time painter or a seasoned artist, this class is designed to be fun and accessible for all. 3v3 Basketball Tournament (Kiawah Madness)
5:30pm and 6:30pm | Night Heron Basketball Court
Join us at the Night Heron Park Basketball Court for a 3v3 Basketball Tournament! Come alone or with a team to play against the island’s top basketball talent. We’ll get the crowd; you call the fouls! Youth games begin at 5:40pm. Adult games begin at 6:40pm. Prizes awarded to the winning team in each category.
Admission is complimentary, no reservations required. Please arrive ten minutes early to register your team. The youth tournament is open to participants ages 12 and under, while those 13 and older will showcase their skills in the adult tournament.

Beach Yoga

Yoga on the beach is hatha yoga with a blend of slow to moderate pace vinyasa and longer held restorative poses. We work at a beginner to intermediate level and focus on using breath to create body awareness, calm the mind and build strength and flexibility.

Wildlife in the Wetlands Bike Tour

A Naturalist favorite: this tour will take you on a leisurely bike ride to discover the fascinating wildlife that inhabits Kiawah’s diverse ecosystems. You’ll gain a better understanding of the beaches, dunes, maritime forest, ponds, and salt marshes that stretch across the island, while learning each ecosystem’s unique characteristics and covering about 6 miles.

Post Card Making

Shelling Expedition
12-2pm
SC’s beautiful coastal ecosystem provides a variety of unique and interesting marine mollusks. Accessible only by boat, our Naturalists will escort you to a remote barrier island known for its abundance of shells. Important to our delicate coastline, we encourage photographs and apply shell collecting limits to help conserve the beach and its inhabitants for future generations.

Accompany a Naturalist on a guided paddle to a private dune-side beach. While at the beach, you will enjoy some fun in the sun as you beachcomb, seine net, swim, and hopefully see some resident Bottlenose (Tamanend) Dolphins. Children must be 3 years old and 35lbs. Vanderhorst Mystery
Night Heron Park Stage | 2-3:15pm
The Vanderhorst family shaped Kiawah Island for nearly two centuries as leaders both in governance and agriculture. Their restored plantation house still stands as a testament to the island’s deep Lowcountry history, and their name lives on in the luxurious Vanderhorst mansion deep into the island.
Step into the world of fiction as you join James Vanderhorst and a select group of his trusted friends and colleagues at his grand estate for an elegant dinner party. But as the evening unfolds, a chilling mystery emerges… and someone among you may not be who they seem. This will be an immersive narrated experience that provides you with confidential clues and backstories, the rest is up to you and your co-conspirators to determine who is guilty. Work together… or deceive the others. After all, you might just be the one with something to hide.

Family Craft: Stuffed Animal Factory

Join us for a fun and memorable crafting experience where you’ll select and stuff your very own furry friend! Choose from a variety of adorable animals and add a special touch by placing a heart inside your stuffed animal, making it uniquely yours. You can also create a birth certificate to name your new friend and remember your time spent on Kiawah Island. This is a great activity for all ages and makes for a perfect travel companion for long car rides or flights home! No reservation required—just stop by and start creating! All materials provided.

Candle Making

Get ready to make your very own candles! Our artist will help you step by step in the candle-making process. Choose from our 80+ scents, either picking out one scent or getting creative and combining multiple. Further customize your candles with our label maker, acrylic paint markers, and selection of wax dye making them uniquely yours.

Do you have what it takes to compete on the battlefield? Put your thinking caps on because strategic tactics are consequential! Grab your crew and go head-to-head against others in this fierce match. Aim at your enemy’s targets as you battle through the smoke machines. Hide behind the inflatable bunkers, but be careful not to get hit by your opponent’s precise laser beams. Will you be ruled as the Laser Tag Champions, or will you be sent home?

Teen Glow Bowl

Tidal Trip & Dip

Accompany a Naturalist on a guided paddle to a private dune-side beach. While at the beach, you will enjoy some fun in the sun as you beachcomb, seine net, swim, and hopefully see some resident Bottlenose (Tamanend) Dolphins. Children must be 3 years old and 35lbs. Participants under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Pilates on the Pool Deck

This beginner-friendly Pilates class focuses on core strength, flexibility, and balance, while taking the calmness of one of Kiawah’s tranquil lagoons as your background . Be ready to get into the water and actively participate by helping to drag the net, engaging in a hands-on experience unlike any other!

Grab your shovels and head to the beach for our annual 4th of July Sand Sculpting Contest! Join in on the fun and channel your inner artist to create your best American themed sculpture. Not an artist? Come enjoy your afternoon on the beach and vote for your favorite sculpture!
Admission is complimentary, no reservations required. A limited amount of shovels and buckets are available on a first come first serve basis. Per town ordinance, metal shovels are not permitted.

Accompany a Naturalist on a guided paddle in dual occupancy tandem kayaks. An adult must accompany all participants under the age of 16. Sunscreen, bug spray, and bottled water are provided.

East Beach Village | 5 – 5:45pm
Patriots of all ages are encouraged to join us on bikes, skates, roller blades, or by foot. The Kiawah Island Recreation Department will lead the parade followed by Uncle Sam, Lady Liberty, and Captain America. The route leads participants down Sea Forest Drive from The East Beach Village, and finishes at Night Heron Park where everyone is welcomed to join the Independence Day Festival.
Admission is complimentary, no reservations required. Parade begins promptly at 5:45pm. This event, as well as gate access during this time, is limited to Kiawah Island guests and residents.
6 – 9pm | Night Heron Park
This festival will kick off following the Annual Bike Parade at Night Heron Park with many attractions for family and friends to enjoy! Festivities include live music, carnival games, inflatables, a photo booth, and more!

Food prices range from $5-$20. Select attractions and crafts $3 – $15. Tickets will be on sale at the park starting at 4pm and at the event. Food will be served until 9 pm, featuring a cookout menu inspired by traditional holiday favorites. Night Heron Grill will close for food service at 4 pm; bar will be open until 9:30 pm. Perch will be closing at 4pm.
