Turtle Point Golf Course Renovation
Under the consultation of course designer, Jack Nicklaus, Turtle Point is undergoing a top-to-bottom renovation. While not much is changing the fairways on the course other than bunkering, all of the green complexes have substantially changed.
Additionally, all new irrigation is being installed on the course. The yardage of the course will remain close to what it was but more teeing area are being added to give more options on course set-up.
Plus, property lines are being cleared making the course look substantially larger and more open. All of the greens have been sprigged and growing in well. Some of the fairways have been sprigged. The rest will be sprigged soon.
No. 1 – tees have moved to the left closer to the pond and the green has moved to the left making No. 1 more of a dogleg. A new fairway bunker has been added and the green has been slightly elevated and has been shifted to the left.
No. 2 – The back tee is now a double tee for both No. 2 and No. 11. A new large forward tee has been built. The issues of wet fairways after heavy rains has been addressed. Fairway bunkers have been added to the left and old dead trees have been removed. Fairway has been made much bigger. Green has been moved substantially to the right next to the pond.
No. 3 – Only hole on the island without a bunker. Reshaped a large fairway and built up the left side on water’s edge. The green now hugs the water more.
No. 4 – Built a new larger forward tee. Much of the sand in the fairway will be removed and will be replaced with a smaller waste area. The bunker that was on the front right of the green has been moved to the side and a bunker has been added to the back left. The green has been moved a bit to the left.
No. 5 –The green has been elevated quite a bit. A number of bunkers have been built near the green making it hard to hit in 2. There is now much more sloping on the green.
No. 6 – The green has been moved substantially to the left with the bunkheaded green further into the water, gaining back its original design. A bunker is now behind the green.
No. 7 – Substantial changes have been made to this par-3. This will now be one of the most photographed holes on the course, possibly the entire resort.
No. 8 – The tee has been stretched substantially back, making for a monster par-4. The bunker has been removed by the water in the landing area. The green moved forwarded a bit and was greatly recontoured.
No. 9 – The target fairway bunker remains but was reshaped. The green now hugs the pond more. This was the first green sprigged and has already been mowed.
No. 10 – Fairway bunker on the right remains and three fairway bunkers on the left are being added. The green has moved forward and left and a number of bunkers have been added around the green, including in the run-off area to the left of the green.
No. 11 – Once again, the green now hugs the water more and the green is substantially smaller.
No. 12 – A new fairway bunker has been added just past in the landing area. The tree to the right of the green that interfered with play has been removed and the green has been elevated and moved to the right. A bunker guards the left front of the green.
No. 13 – Bunkers that ran around the left 100 yards out from the green have been removed. A bunker has been added to the right of the green adjacent to the water.
No. 14 – Growth by tees was cleared out and the green substantially raised with a higher front and rear levels and a lower middle. The ocean can clearly be seen from the green.
No. 15 – The entire right hand side will have dunes to match the actual dunes on the left. This will give the hole a beach look. The green is now punchbowl and funnels to the middle with one bunker protecting.
No. 16 – The back tee will remain where it was while the other tees are shifting to the right and raised a bit. The green stays essentially the same with the bunker in front.
No. 17 – A great new elevated green complex here with a false front.
No. 18 – Green is raised a bit and the bunker to the right side of the green has been moved further left so players who lay up to the right of the pond won’t have to hit over the bunker to reach the green. Additionally, a bunker has been added behind the green.
