Golfers — Is the Ocean Course on Your Bucket List? It Should Be!

Kiawah Island Delivers Five famed Courses
to Challenge You

Kiawah Island’s storied Ocean Course will forever be remembered as host of the 94th PGA Championship and Rory McIlroy’s breathtaking victory. After challenging the best in the world, this course has made its way onto every serious golfer’s bucket list. So make plans with your partner or favorite foursome to play Pete Dye’s oceanfront masterpiece — it’s the round of a lifetime! A trip to Kiawah is also your opportunity to enjoy dining, spa, tennis and recreation on this spectacular barrier island just minutes from historic Charleston. But first, let’s take a closer look at the resort’s five championship golf courses:

The Ocean Course by Pete Dye: Panoramic views and unrivaled golf history make playing this legendary course on unforgettable experience. Located on the easternmost end of Kiawah Island, The Ocean Course has more seaside holes than any other course in the Northern Hemisphere — 10 right along the Atlantic, with the other eight running parallel to those. The Ocean Course also has the distinction of being one of only four courses in the U.S. to have hosted every PGA of American major event, including The Ryder Cup and the 2012 PGA Championship.

turtle-point-insetTurtle Point by Jack Nicklaus: Highlighted by three spectacular oceanfront holes, Turtle Point exemplifies the architect’s meticulous approach to the game. With narrow fairway corridors, small greens, strategically placed water hazards and plenty of out-of-bounds, Turtle Point calls for great accuracy and savvy strategies. Since it is one of the longest courses on the island, proficiency with fairway woods and long irons is a must.

osprey-point-insetOsprey Point by Tom Fazio: Following an extensive renovation under the direction of course architect Tom Fazio, Osprey Point has just reopened this month. The entire course was regressed with Paspalum, the same salt-tolerant grass that performs so well on The Ocean Course. All greens have been returned to their original sizes and contours and all bunkers have been rebuilt. In addition to nine new forward tees, all tee boxes were laser-leveled. These improvements add up to a complete rejuvenation of the course to return it to the gem that so many golfers have enjoyed over the years.

cougar-point-insetCougar Point by Gary Player: With sweeping views of the river and marsh, Cougar Point features a great blend of short and long par-4s, great risk/reward par-5s and extremely scenic and challenging par-3s. One of the most dramatic vistas on the island is the middle of Cougar Point’s front nine, along the Kiawah River. Cougar Point was recently rated “Golf Course of the Year” by the South Carolina Golf Course Owners Association and awarded a near-perfect 4.5 stars in Golf Digest’s “Best Places to Play” reader’s poll.

oak-point-insetOak Point by Clyde Johnston: Located just outside the resort gate, Oak Point offers scenic vistas of expansive saltwater marshes and dense forests. Oak Point has gone through dramatic changes over the last couple of years, greatly enhancing both the quality of golf and the overall guest experience.

You can virtually experience these challenging courses with hole-by-hole tours and videos on Kiawah’s extensive golf site, where you’ll also find course reviews, tournament history and more about the unsurpassed golf experience in this beautiful natural setting.
