Six Fun Ways To Stay Active On Kiawah Island This Winter
The positive impact of exercise is no secret — weight control, enhanced mood, improved health and more. In fact, the Mayo clinic has identified seven benefits of regular physical activity. While it’s very easy to nod your head and agree with them all, it’s far more difficult to follow through and make it happen – especially as temperatures drop and the hibernation instinct kicks in.
To help motivate you to stay active this winter, Kiawah Island Golf Resort offers six ways to do what you love, get that blood pumping and stay on top of your game – all within coastal South Carolina’s cozy climate.
1) Golf or Gourmet Escape
Through March 3, 2016, the ever popular Golf or Gourmet Escape includes two nights of accommodations plus your choice of either two rounds of golf or two dinner at select restaurants, or even one round of golf and one dinner. “Most guests choose the golf option for the opportunity to play on our five championship courses when things are quieter, yet still pleasant outside,” said Tom Bewley, Director of Sales and Marketing at Kiawah Island Golf Resort.
2) Women’s Tennis Weekends
Hall of Fame Tennis Pro Roy Barth directs Kiawah Island Golf Resort’s tennis staff, instruction and programming, all of which have been ranked #1 by TennisResortsOnline.com. From mid-January to mid-February, the resort hosts Women’s Tennis Weekends that feature professional instruction, open play, camaraderie and competition over each three-day event.
3)Women’s Golf Getaway
Players of every skill level will be amazed at the progress they’re able to make over the span of a single weekend thanks to the boot camp – style instruction offered during the Women’s Golf Getaway, exclusively at Kiawah Island Golf Resort February 25 – 28, 2016.
4) The National Pro-Am
This annual tournament promises serious golf and serious competition. PGA club professionals from across the country each assemble three of their members to vie for prizes and glory in a 72-hole stroke play event on four of Kiawah Island Golf Resort’s golf courses – Pete Dye’s world-renown Ocean Course, Clyde Johnston’s newly renovated Oak Point, Gary Player’s Cougar Point and Tom Fazio’s Osprey Point. The National Pro-Am will be held March 6 – 10, 2016, but teams must enter by February 1, 2016 to participate.
5) Annual Friendship Cup
Celebrating its 10th anniversary, the Friendship Cup is a two-man tournament for male amateurs that will be contested on the famed Ocean Course – site of the 2012 and 2021 PGA Championship – as well as the player favorite, Tom Fazio – designed Osprey Point. The event, often touted as “Golf’s 5th Major”, will be held March 10 – 13, 2016 and also showcases lavish dinners honoring past champions and the current year’s award-winners, in addition to more casual gatherings over the four days of festivities.
6) Comedy Weekend
Don’t chuckle…but Men’s Fitness has identified several muscles that are exercised when you laugh, including your abdominals, back, shoulders and 15 muscles in your face alone! So you can feel really good about attending Kiawah’s 2nd Annual Comedy Weekend, January 29 – 30, 2016. Some of the nation’s most acclaimed comedians will have you belly laughing at both the Friday and Saturday night shows, so you can achieve a full-body workout.
Of course, you’re not limited to these six ways of staying active. Kiawah Island’s unspoiled surroundings and mild temperatures offer an abundance of outdoor recreation – paddle boarding, kayaking, biking and simply exploring are all guest favorites. By booking your accommodations directly with the resort – either accommodations or at 800.654.2924 – you’re ensured exclusive benefits and savings, complimentary island transportation and the best selection of lodging for your wonderful winter workouts.
