After what seemed like a vacation in paradise, I wanted to take a moment to write about my experience at the Sanctuary at Kiawah Island Golf Resort.

While searching online for a family vacation destination, I lightheartedly entered a drawing at www.kiawahresort.com for a free vacation.  A few days later, I received a telephone call which I thought was a joke.  But, it wasn’t.  I had won a vacation package!

I couldn’t wait to tell my wife and two little girls since I had often talked about wanting to visit The Sanctuary.

Well, from the moment we arrived, it is really hard to describe the experience as anything less than spectacular.  We travel frequently and experience many resorts.  But, the companies that rate places need to add a new category because five stars isn’t enough to describe Kiawah Resort.

The basics are what you would expect at a high-end resort.  A beautiful hotel.  Seemingly unlimited options for family fun.  And, a variety of restaurants.

But, what sets Kiawah apart from other resorts are really three things.

First, the activities available for families are extremely well-organized.  This is an important detail that is often left out at other resorts.  Vacationers with small children know how little time they have to worry about details.  It is a huge relief when resort staff takes on this burden and it allows families to truly sit back and enjoy.

Second, I was surprised by the amount of attention resort staff puts into making this an unforgettable experience for children.  All too often, we visit resorts which cater mainly to adults, which is fine.  But, the extra step to make our daughters feel as though they were the focus of the experience is really priceless.  From the Mingo Point oyster roast and BBQ to the Sundown Festival, our girls can’t stop talking about this trip.

Third, I added some days to our free trip at my own expense to extend our vacation.  I was pleasantly surprised by the value at this resort.  I have paid much more for resorts that offer less.  That’s an important part of the equation when you are trying to pack so much into a limited budget.  I can guarantee that our family will return to this resort.

One final note just for the adults, the Sanctuary Spa at Kiawah Resort is, without question, the nicest resort spa I have seen.  The pictures on the website are lovely.  But, you have to experience this spa in person to truly appreciate the calmness in instills.

Cheers to the staff at Kiawah Resort for maintaining an exceptional vacation oasis!  I am being quite sincere when I say, “I can’t wait to see you again!”
