A Kiawah Beverage Series with Bittermilk

A back-porch BBQ indeed, sure to bring the summer season to a closing… in style! If you were in the area you knew something good was cooking over at Jasmine Porch at The Sanctuary.

Jasmine Porch hosted this month’s Kiawah Beverage Series with Bittermilk in house. Bittermilk is Charleston’s newest compound cocktail mixer designed for the modern day cocktail enthusiast. Each product that was sampled was created using a bittering agent, a sweetener and an acid to achieve a balanced cocktail… all the labor is in the bottle.

As you arrived to Jasmine Porch our team sat you either in our well-appointed restaurant or you dined al fresco on the patio looking over the beautiful butterfly garden. The summer heat was definitely in effect however with Bittermilk serving up delicious spirits, the chilled compound mixtures were sure to cool you down! Served last evening:

Blackberry Bramble
1.5oz Dry Gin
1 oz Crème De mure
6 large Blackberries
.25 oz lemon juice
.25 oz Bittermilk No. 1

Strawberry Jalapeno Punch
1.75 oz Tequila
.75 oz Triple Sec
1.5 oz Strawberry and Jalapeno Puree
.25 oz Lime Juice
.5 oz Bittermilk No. 2
Shaken on ice and Served in a Tall or Collins glass with a salted rim and lime wedge garnish.

Smoked Honey Sidecar
1.75 oz Bourbon
.25 oz Lemon Juice
.25 oz Bittermilk No. 3
.75 oz Grand Marnier
1 dash of Angostura Bitters
Shaken on ice then strained and served in a rocks glass with an orange peel.

New Orleans Style Old Fashioned Rouge
.5 OZ Bittermilk No.4
Shake and strain into a rocks glass

Charred Grapefruit tonic
1.5 oz White Rum
1.5 oz Soda Water
1.5 oz Bittermilk No.5
Combine on fresh ice in a Collins glass

The buffet was stacked with everything you’d imagine for a classy BBQ dinner; Summer Salads, Fresh Fruit, Slow Roasted Suckling Pig, Herb Crusted Prime Rib, Collard Greens, Maytag Blue Mashed Potatoes…etc.

With the relaxed flow of the evening diners were able to sample the buffet and bar options multiple times upon their leisure, making this a true family style event. At the conclusion of the evening diners were asked to cast their vote on their favorite beverage. In a close race, Bittermilk No. 5 pulled ahead and with this the Jasmine Porch team looks forward to including it on our fall cocktail list.
