Twelve years ago Kiawah Island Golf Resort held an important ceremony for  our luxurious oceanfront hotel and spa – the groundbreaking of The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island Golf Resort. The elaborate ceremony that was held in the summer of 2002 at the hotel site and the Turtle Point clubhouse. It was attended by several dignitaries, including Charleston’s Mayor Joseph P. Riley Jr. Guests of the ceremony enjoyed the view of the ocean front cleared land that had signs displayed to illustrate where the major parts of the hotel would be located.  They also got a sneak peek of the Sanctuary’s table settings, room amenities, and spa treatments. Renderings of the hotel were displayed so guests could preview some of the lush interior design and architecture that was to be featured in the hotel.  This groundbreaking ceremony was a great way to excite the media and future guests about this new crown jewel of the island.
