Forbidden Rice — Superfood!

Possible new cancer fighting super food- Forbidden Rice

Highlighted in the Sanctuary at Kiawah Island Golf Resort premier restaurant, The Ocean Room’s Sushi Lounge, Chef Nathan Thurston is serving up something unusual. Named originally in China, Forbidden Rice was considered to be the Emperor’s rice and prohibited anyone else to eat it. Forbidden Rice is essentially described as black rice.  But… black rice? Just like so many different grains of rice, black rice is one of the several black-colored heirloom plants that produce rice variants. High in its nutritional value, including iron, black rice is a newly considered super food to possibly help fight cancer.

Low in sugar, the grain is packed with healthy fiber and plan compounds that combat heart disease and cancer. As commonly known, brown rice is considered to be more nutritious because it contains higher levels of healthy vitamin E composite and antioxidants. Black rice could also be used to give healthier and natural colorants.

Superfoods specifically are major contributors to our heart, joints and memory. They are fighting foods that help lower your cholesterol, reduce your risk of heart disease and cancer, and for little extra these super powered foods help release good pheromones, putting you in a better mood. Currently the top contenders are; beans, blueberries, broccoli, oats, oranges, pumpkin, salmon, soy, spinach, tea (green or black), tomatoes, turkey, walnuts and yogurts.

Soon to be added to this list- Forbidden Rice!
