Holidays in High Style on Kiawah Island

festive holiday cookies

As the year winds down, Kiawah Island Golf Resort gears up for the holidays. No sooner does the resort clear the numerous Thanksgiving feasts than staff begins decorating, signaling a month-long celebration of the season.

Tree Lighting Ceremony at The Sanctuary

On Friday morning of each Thanksgiving weekend, the staff at the Sanctuary hotel deck the halls of The Sanctuary for the holiday season. Although the Grand Lobby Christmas tree serves as the focal point, mantels and grand staircases also receive special treatment with tasteful holiday décor. The official tree-lighting ceremony begins with great pomp and circumstance at 5pm, immediately followed by sing-along Christmas caroling.

Cookie Decorating at The Sanctuary

The following day, kids of all ages pack the Morning Room to decorate holiday cookies. This complimentary event sponsored by The Town of Kiawah repeats each Saturday throughout the season through the weekend before Christmas. Since this is an understandably popular event, be sure to make reservations by calling (843) 786-6253.

Santa’s Lowcountry Arrival

Perhaps the most highly anticipated holiday event is the grand arrival of Mr. and Mrs. Klaus — via golf cart, naturally. After appearing on the Grand Lawn, the Klauses head indoors to the lobby where childen of all ages have the chance to visit with Santa as parents get a photo for their holiday cards. After visiting with Santa, Mrs. Claus reads Christmas stories in the Morning Room. Later, the Sanctuary Pastry Team unveils the astonishing annual gingerbread house creation.
